Inspire
You don’t need to be an IT whizz to be someone's digital champion.
The knack is to find a site or service that helps with their interests so they can understand what's wonderful about the web.
If they need more time or knowledge than you can give, visit the 'show' section for local help and courses.
A simple search on Google or Bing is the best place to start, but you can also go straight to popular sites that will capture the imagination:
- Find the latest news and sport on the BBC
- Show someone the street they grew up on using Google Street View
- Show off hundreds of free films on YouTube or TV shows on iPlayer
- Watch trailers and see what’s on at your local cinema
- Thousands of recipe ideas from great chefs
- See photos of just about anything on Flickr
- Learn about places across the globe on TripAdvisor
- Use the Google Product Search to compare prices
- Read restaurants reviews and book tables on TopTable
- Discover plans and ideas on how to get fit
- Help someone check if they’ve won the Premium Bonds - there’s over £39m unclaimed!
- Teach someone about Ebay and Amazon with this free Open University course on online shopping
If you’re a teacher or know someone who is, inspire your students to help someone they know to discover the wonders of the web over the school holidays - download your give an hour pack for schools to help you do this.
